Rhododendron Furniture
Price range: €75.00 through €95.00
Inspired by the milking stools of old but made from two problem plants – Rhododedron ponticum for the legs & Spruce for the seats!
Why rhododendron furniture!?
The highly invasive Rhododendron ponticm is one of main causes of biodiversity loss on Esk Mountain as it is across many areas of Ireland. Its removal is extremely labour intensive and with minimal funding currently available to aid in this we are trying new ways to help fund its removal. One of which is by processing it into a range of products with the help of both volunteers and a local maker.
Again like much of Ireland the forestry on this site is dominated by densely planted coniferous monocultures such as Sitka Spruce, hybrid Larch and Monterey Cypress that create ecological dead zones. As we transition this to a more nature focused woodland we are able to utilize the available timber in these products and help fund the transition.
